Prince Harry to be "School Games President"

Prince Harry has become president of the Sainsbury's School Games.
In backing the multi-sport event, the prince will help to highlight the role that competitive sport can play in making a difference in young people's lives.
The finals for the first ever Games, involving 1,600 elite young athletes, took place at ExCel and the Olympic Park.

Prince Harry said : "Huge congratulations to everyone who has taken part in the inaugural School Games, but especially to those who have won.
"I believe that sport can give people confidence and skills which set you up for life. It is so important to get outside and to keep physically and mentally fit."I am very honoured to become the president of the School Games."

The Games is a year-round school sports initiative, which uses the inspiration of London's Olympics and Paralympics to transform competitive sport in schools and get more people playing.

Thousands of schools across the country have signed up to take part in local class versus class and school versus school competitions, along with county-wide sports festivals.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said he was "thrilled" that Prince Harry is backing the games, adding: "He is a great sportsman in his own right and I'm sure his support and enthusiasm will be a massive inspiration to all the young people who take part in every stage of the Sainsbury's School Games."

Prince Harry to meet 2012 Warrior Games competitors in Washington

Prince Harry will meet some of the top competitors from the 2012 Warrior Games following the conclusion of the event at a special reception on May 7 at the British Ambassador's residence in Washington, it has been announced.

The Warrior Games, presented by Deloitte, will see over 200 wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans compete in an Olympic-style competition when it takes place for the third consecutive year in Colorado Springs, United States, from April 30 to May 5.

It will be hosted by US Paralympics, the Paralympic division of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

For the first time ever, Britain will be competing at the event and Prince Harry will meet members of both the British and American Warrior Games teams in Washington.

The announcement gives further prestige to the event after it was revealed this week that First Lady Michelle Obama will attend the Opening Ceremony.

This came as the British Armed Forces team boarded their plane to the competition in a trip supported and funded by the UK charity Help for Heroes (H4H).

The UK squad of 21 will compete in the five sports of archery, cycling, swimming, track and field and sitting volleyball.

The wounded personnel who will be taking part in the Games include: Private Pa Njie; Private Thomas Lawlor; Captain Simon Maxwell; Sergeant Colin Hamilton; Captain David Henson; Corporal Karl Hubberstey; Trooper Corie Mapp; Guardsman Apisalome Matiyavi; Miss Samantha Bowen; Lance Corporal Maurillia Simpson; Private Declan Hill; Corporal Claire Edwards; and Private Scott Meenagh.

As an additional honour, Captain Simon Maxwell has been selected as an honorary Torchbearer for the event alongside First Lieutenant Melissa Stockwell of the US Army.

Stockwell from Chicago is an Iraq veteran while Maxwell from Croydon in England is an Afghanistan veteran.

The pair will light the cauldron together to officially start the event.

"We are delighted that Help for Heroes will support a UK team into such a high profile US event," said Bryn Parry, the chief executive and co-founder of Help for Heroes.

"Our participation in the Warrior Games is significant in raising awareness of the work that takes place worldwide in supporting wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, especially as we approach a busy year in sport."

The British Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir David Richards, also praised Britain's involvement in the event.

"The 2012 Wounded Warrior Games are a great opportunity for our wounded and injured service personnel to show off their sporting prowess and to demonstrate the fantastic rehabilitation they have received through sport," he said.

"This will be the first time the UK has fielded a team in these games and this underlines the special relationship the UK and the US Armed Forces continue to share.

"I am proud to support the UK team and wish them the very best of luck for success in the Wounded Warrior Games."

The competition is also supported by the Department of Defense, US Department of Veterans Affairs, USO, Fisher House Foundation, The Daniels Fund, AT&T, BP, DeVry, Anheuser Busch and Chobani.

HM THE QUEEN TO MAKE 'PRINCE HARRY' A "KNIGHT OF THE GARTER" AS DIAMOND JUBILEE HONOUR

Prince Harry visited Belize on Diamond Jubilee Tour ."People's Prince - Prince Harry"

Royal experts believe she intends to mark her Diamond Jubilee by investing her grandson in Britain’s oldest and highest order of chivalry, founded by Edward III in 1348.Harry’s elder brother Prince William, a future sovereign of the order, became its 1,000th knight in 2008.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers said that in the past the Queen has used special anniversaries to bestow honours on her family.

“On her 80th birthday, she gave the Garter to Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. I think it would be a popular thing in Jubilee year.”Last month Prince Harry, 27, who is training to return to Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot, undertook his first overseas tour on behalf of the Queen, visiting Belize, the Bahamas and Jamaica.Any additions to the noble order are usually announced by the Queen on April 23, St George’s Day, with appointments in her personal gift. There can only be a maximum of 24 ordinary knights and lady companions at any one time but any number of extra royal members can be created. Andrew and Edward waited until they were much older than Harry before they were honoured, said Mr Vickers.“The Queen doesn’t dish these things out terribly freely,” he said.Harry is to present trophies to the winners of Sunday’s London Marathon after agreeing to become patron of its charitable trust.Joint race director David Bedford said: “Prince Harry is a great supporter of the event and it is especially fitting to have a royal presence during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.”

Prince Harry is Top Gun in Apache Helicopter course

Prince Harry will return to Afghanistan after qualifying yesterday as a front line Apache attack helicopter pilot.

"Britain's Prince Harry has won a prize for being the best co-pilot gunner out of more than 20 newly qualified Apache attack Helicopter pilots, the Ministry of Defense said Thursday."

"The award handed to Captain Wales consists of a polished 30 mm round from an Apache cannon mounted on a stand," the ministry said in a statement.

Harry, who four years ago briefly did active service in Afghanistan, was given the award during a dinner Wednesday to mark the end of 18 months of intensive training. It was one of two prizes for achievement on the Apache course.
As part of his Apache course, Harry spent two months in the United States where he was trained in handling the helicopter in mountain and desert conditions, in dust landings, and day and night operations, as well as taking part in live firing.
British Apache helicopters supported last year's NATO mission over Libya and continue to be used to assist the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.Duke Of Cambridge, Prince  William is following the footsteps of his Younger Brother Prince Harry. William is currently on deployment as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot in the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic.

Captain Wales :- Real Top Gun

The 27-year-old prince served in the army in the southern Afghan province of Helmand but returned home after just 10 weeks when a media blackout collapsed.
He had secretly been flown to Helmand in mid-December 2007 to work as a forward air controller, calling in air strikes and informing pilots of where their targets were.
That made him the first member of Britain's royal family to see active service in a theatre of war since his uncle Prince Andrew flew helicopters during the Falklands war.
After returning from Afghanistan, Harry said he was keen to return to frontline action but military chiefs warned it could pose too much of a security headache.
A possible deployment to Iraq was cancelled at the last minute because of concern for his safety and that of his colleagues.
The prince will be based at an army air base at Wattisham in eastern England, as part of 16 Air Assault Brigade, where he will participate in exercises within Britain to gain wider experience of flying Apaches.

Prince Harry and Prince William go into Battle for abandoned war Heroes

Prince Harry with Other Military Soldiers[Friends] Serving in Afghanistan

A charitable trust set up to help soldiers make a successful transition to civilian life is being launched with the backing of £35 million - and the support of Prince Harry and Duke of Cambridge.

Funding from the Big Lottery Fund means the Forces in Mind Trust (FIMT), which has been given partnership support from the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, will begin helping veterans and ex-service personnel this week.

The FIMT aims to provide UK-wide long-term support and advice during the next 20 years to ex-service personnel who wish to ease back into everyday life after experiencing action on the front line.
According to the trust, soldiers and their families can experience poor mental health, family breakdown and alcohol-related problems as they attempt to settle back into civilian life.

The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry will back the FIMT with grants over a three-year programme, help to raise awareness of the issues facing veterans and carry out research on the most effective ways to support their transition to civilian life.
Nick Booth, the foundation's chief executive, said: "We are incredibly excited about this partnership with Forces in Mind.
"Taking a direct lead from our patrons, the foundation is committed to ensuring those who have given so much serving their country in the Armed Forces are, in turn, given as much support as they and their families need to re-integrate into civilian society.
"We hope the foundation's involvement and resources will further allow the Forces in Mind Trust to become a major new source of support and leadership in this incredibly important sector."
